Giddiness III

spray paint on canvas

46 x 38 cm

The Giddiness canvas affectionately parodies our persistent belief in technology's ability to solve the deep-rooted issues within our civilization. Despite the inevitable entropic tendencies of the systems we've constructed, we continue to apply new glossy apps on the surface, hoping to delay and divert attention from the underlying flaws. As a result, the perception of progress becomes an illusory mirage, as the veneer regularly melts away, revealing the old and corrupted scaffolding beneath. This painting emulates the gradual drip of progress being tested in real-time, forcing us to constantly, giddily reach for the mirage and reinvent, to adapt and swiftly evolve within the confines of a single media format, while the broader arc of history evolves at a more deliberate pace.

"Djuro’s work at first seems a bright and bold venture into a digital world of computer graphics. But the soft colours hide a harder reality. Under their surface is a different world – a manipulative and seductive place of traps and fault lines, disruptive, dangerous and overwhelming. She is interested in the very contemporary tension between the real and virtual worlds, and how our dependence on ever more powerful technology creates confusion between the two."
